Children Ministries Team mission statement:
In a positive environment of Christian fellowship and fun, Children Ministries advocates for the spiritual and emotional needs of the children of our church family and the adult volunteers who serve them.
The Church of the Good shepherd has a vibrant and growing children's ministry. Some of our ministries are highlighted below. There are many more!
For more information about any of our children's programs, please contact our Sunday school superintendent, Melanie Snyder, at (703)281-5837 or Sue Warrick, Chair of our Children's Ministry Team at (703)319-8324.
In 2005, The Church of the Good Shepherd became A Church for All God's Children. For more information on what it means to be a Church for All God's Children click on the Bishop's Initiative, or go to www.vaumc.org and click on "Ministries" and then "Children's Initiative."

"Lead me, teach me, for you are the God who gives me salvation." Psalms 25:5
Worship Discovery is a program for our young children (ages 4-6) who are too old for the Nursery but a little too "wiggly" to sit in the Sanctuary for the entire worship service. Children are dismissed during the 11:00 worship service after the Children's Message to gather in Room 2 in the Education Center. Adult leaders provide age-appropriate activities that help children learn about the elements of worship. Activities are fun, meaningful, and repetitive.
All children ages 4-6 are invited to attend.
For further information, contact our Director of Lay Ministries, Penny Rasnake, at (703)281-3987 x13.
Worship Discovery resumes September 9th, 2007

Kid's Club meets at the Church on the third Sunday of the month from 12:30-2:00 pm.
Kid's Club is for children in grades 3-6 (and their friends!). It meets once a month, usually at the church, from 12:30-2:00 pm for fun and fellowship, to build friendships, and to help others.
What kinds of things do we do? Well, last year we made a banner for the church, planted daffodil bulbs, created soaps for our Lakota friends, tied blankets for the Linus Project, sang Christmas carols, and went swimming, among other things. We also ate pizza, played games, laughed a lot, and learned that loving God, making friends, and serving others makes us feel great.
For further information, contact the Kid's Club coordinators: Sue Warrick (703)319-8324 or Mark and Joan Fletcher (703)273-6260.

Third graders are presented with Bibles each fall, and then are invited to attend an annual Bible Retreat for 3rd and 4th graders. The 2007 retreat is scheduled for Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 9:45am to 12:30pm. Games, crafts, and lively activities all focus on learning more about the Book that is one of God's greatest gifts to us.
A fifth- and sixth-grade Bible Retreat is scheduled is scheduled for Sunday May 4, 2008. This event offers the opportunity for children to understand how the Bible came to be from songs, stories, word-of-mouth messages and written documents, considered holy writings, that eventually were organized into Old and New Testaments. They may be introduced to the sacraments, disciplines and commitments of Christian life. The event also offers opportunities for study, games, fun and friendship.
