Blessings In The Midst

TODAY: Look at your life today. Discover and acknowledge the blessings, both large and small, you have already been given and thank God. Remember, too, that even in the darkest times, the blessings are there. We have only to seek them out.

Walking with my sister, Judie, through the last months of her life, though filled with sorrow and pain, also was occasion for many often unexpected blessings.

That we could laugh . . . even knowing she was dying.

That as a parade of folks from her present and past reconnected, my picture of my sister was rounded out and colored in, and I loved her all the more.

That her faith would be so strengthened that she did not fear death, but saw it as a "coming home" and welcomed it.

That, as God was helping her to let go of life, He was also helping me to let go of her.

That God in his wisdom was with us both every step of the way, enveloping and comforting us within his loving arms, granting us his peace and grace and, above all, his LOVE.

This year, because of my experiences, and these many blessings, I will be better able to imagine the feelings of Jesus, and his family and followers. I will view the events of Easter with "new eyes" and greater understanding. Thanks be to God.
