KIDS SAY THE MOST AMAZING THINGS
I am always amazed by how much we can learn from our children. When we were studying this passage in Sunday School recently, one church member expressed how important it is to "Listen, just listen without prejudice to everyone we come into contact with," because we never know when God will be using another to speak to us. A few weeks ago, I helped lead an Intergenerational Sunday School Class in which parents, other adults and children were combined together in one class. Near the end of the class, we asked for prayer requests. One mother expressed joy about a conversation about God that she recently had with her young daughter. This conversation started during a trip out West, when the mother had remarked that she knew how wonderful God is every time she thought about the Rocky Mountains. All of us in the class could relate to her awe, but afterward I didn't give her comments much further thought. Later that day, however, my son Jack came up to me and said: "I think it's really neat how Julia and her mom talk about God. Can we talk about how wonderful God is every day?" "Of course," I said, feeling at once proud and humbled by my seven-year-old son. I suspect Eli may have felt the same way. So now, Jack and I spend time in the morning sharing three thoughts each about how wonderful God is. We never lack things to add to our list. But without a doubt, two things are always on my heart. I know how wonderful God is by the faith I see in our children, and by the witness provided to me by other members of our loving congregation. Kathy Lovelace |
