FAMILY

TODAY: Spring is coming. Plant several seeds, and nurture them so they can flourish when the sun and summertime arrive.

Family: It consists of fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and others near and far. It is a special time in people’s lives when they can start a family of their own. With the arrivals of our three children during the last three-and-a-half years, I am quickly finding out how special these times can be – even despite my lack of sleep and loss of free time. It is even more special being able to share these times and love with a wonderful spouse.

But what is my role? My hope is that I can be the best model possible for my family as Christ is for me.

I recently lost a friend who was a father and great model for three young children. Unimaginable thoughts ran through my mind as I wondered just what I would do, how I would cope and how I would positively deal with my children if I suddenly lost my spouse. I felt queasy and uneasy every time I thought of this.

Knowing that I wouldn’t be suffering alone but would be embraced by Christ and a wonderful extended family provided some comfort and a healing peace. But I am sure I could never fully heal the permanent scar left from such a loss.

As I pondered this, I also became more grateful for God’s grace in giving me all of the blessings that I do have. I am grateful for each day that I can love and be with my entire family.

Love and be with your family for all of your special times to come. Remember your family in the past and look forward to your family in the future. We are all part of a family; making the best of it is a lifelong opportunity.
