DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD
Psalm 37:4 was on my heart every day of 2007. I even added this scripture to most of my written correspondence. It reminded me that lifting up everything to the Lord first would allow HIS blessings to flow with uninterrupted assuredness. In July 2007, I traveled to Haiti for the third time. We were a small group on a fact-finding mission to Pignon in the North Central Plateau. On Saturday morning I arose and began my daily devotions. As I began to pray, a children’s choir from a nearby church began to sweetly sing “The Hallelujah Chorus” in English. I later discovered that the choir was part of a small church led by Pastor Francios Romulus. My plan was to attend service there the next morning. As soon as I arrived, Pastor Francios greeted me with open arms and took me into a small prayer room where we prayed with the rest of his service staff. I was then led to the pulpit area and sat down next to the pastor and his deacons. Above my head written in six-inch letters was a Bible verse. I could only read a few of the words, but at the end of the verse was a label that read “PS 37:4.” When I saw the label, I began to laugh. The pastor looked puzzled until he heard my explanation. He laughed too and asked me to tell the story to the people in the church. As I looked out into the congregation (poor, but dressed in their best clothes), it struck me that these precious children of God not only knew this Bible verse by heart, but also faithfully lived it as God’s promise for their lives. At the end of the service, I stood at the door next to Pastor Francios shaking hands and greeting them as friends in Jesus’ name. Frank Bertrand |
