HEARTS BURNING

TODAY: Honor St. Patrick with this Irish Prayer: “May God give you ... For every storm a rainbow, for every tear a smile, for every care a promise and a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, a faithful friend to share, for every sigh a sweet song and an answer for each prayer.”

Prayers spoken
Soul awoken
I’m done choking on words
Designed to make me
Stumble in your tracks
Or fumble your pass
As though your path
Weren’t the right one
As though your love
Weren’t enlightened
And all-encompassing –
And I realized something:
I’ve finished fooling around
With fickle, fallow phrases
That squeeze the spirit
out of my song
The glory’s gone from my story
When it’s not for you
Melanie Hubbard, age 13
I refuse to be confused
For no reason
To sing without meaning –
Love defines lyric
You know it when you hear it
You feel it
When you’re not concealing
anything
My heart’s out in the open
Pulsing on the table
Waiting for you
To do what you do with it
You’ve taken my routine
Put it in a pan and scrambled it
Until it could hardly
handle the heat
Of your kitchen
The friction your love creates
Oh, Lord, your love lights fires
And I’ll keep mine burning
To share it
Hearth to hearth
And heart to heart.
