The Church of the Good Shepherd

Dear Friends,

Our United Methodist congregation has just completed its 40th year of ministry in Vienna, Virginia. For the past nine years, members and friends of The Church of the Good Shepherd have prepared and distributed a booklet of devotions for Lent. We offer these reflections as a gift to you this Lenten season.

Lent is a time when we can back away from our busy lives and focus more clearly on what God in Jesus Christ has done for us. We read in the Bible that Jesus would take the time to go away to a “deserted place” so he could be alone with God. Lent is a good time for us to find that deserted place each day where we can be alone with the God who created us and who loves us so dearly.

We hope that this Devotions for Lent booklet will assist you as you spend some time alone with God. These thoughts and prayers are authentic, each coming from a person connecting real events of daily life with God’s touch in our lives and our community.

Publishing this book is just one of the ways we reach out in Christian love to our neighbors. As a part of The United Methodist Church, we also are engaged in ministries throughout the United States and around the world.

If you do not have a church home, we invite you to attend one of the services at The Church of the Good Shepherd. Our Sunday service times are 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. Our special Lenten and Holy Week services are listed on the inside back cover of this booklet. You can find out more about Good Shepherd and our many activities at our web site, www.GoodShepherdVa.com.

May you have a blessed Lenten season, and may you experience the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Timothy, Age 8

Yours in Christ,
