What's happening in youth ministry this year at the Church of the Good Shepherd, UMC?
"When the Lord saw that Moses had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." Then God said, "Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." (Exodus 3:4-6)
This year our theme is "Exploring the call!" In UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) we will be exploring the call of Christ to minister to others and to one another. What does it mean to say, "I'm a Christian" and what are the main questions we have about our faith? How do we discuss and even defend our faith to others who may not understand and how do we live as the salt and light of the earth in a visible way to proclaim the gospel and glory of our God?
The year will be broken up into sections that will focus on the exploration of specific books, stories and characters from the bible and then active reactions to what we are learning.
Listed below are some of the main events planned for the 2007-08 school year:
- Sept. 9th - Kick-off 6-8pm
- Oct. 28th - Corn Maze and cook out
- Dec. 16th - Christmas party 6-8pm
- Jan. 21st - Jr. and Sr. High ski Trip all day
- Feb. 22-23rd - 30 hour Famine
- Feb. 24th - Youth Led Worship Service
- Feb. 28th - May 8th Thursday Nights Confirmation 6-8pm
In addition to these events we will be having our weekly UMYF meetings as well as looking into adopting a mission project to last the school year and the creation of a youth council.
